- TRIFR less than 6 by end of 2023
Environmental Challenges
- Dramatic increase in the prices of raw materials such as steel and wood.
- Highly competitive market in the opening months of 2021 (West Nordic).
- Difficult to receive building permits for new non-residential and residential buildings in the Netherlands due to local environmental legislation.
- Strong competition in Spain negatively affecting pricing.
- Increase in raw material prices negatively affecting profit margins in Spain.
Mitigation Strategies
- Took several measures to further optimize products to reduce costs (West Nordic): using less reinforcement, evaluating possibilities of reusing materials, and improving concrete recipes to contain less cement.
- Strengthened cooperation with customers in the Netherlands to grow business and develop building systems that enable faster and more sustainable building methods.
- Reinforced position in Spain as a strong actor within logistics and e-commerce precast structures.
- Took measures to optimize the design of tailor-made products and develop concrete mixes in Eastern Europe to mitigate the sharp increase in raw material prices.
- Maintained fair partnerships and close contact with major suppliers in Eastern Europe to tackle material shortages and utilize cross-border supply chain options.

- Production of Green Spine Line® certified products increased by more than 125 percent to 985,000 tons, making up approximately 30 percent of Consolis’ total precast production, up from circa 9 percent in 2022. This translates into a CO2 reduction of some 33,000 tons, up 175 percent, from 12,000 tons the previous year.
- Relative scope 1 and 2 emissions, along with major scope 3 emissions per ton of production, have experienced a commendable 3 percent decrease.
Social Achievements
- Increased the number of safety inspections carried out in 2023 and reducing the number of recorded accidents and incidents.
- Employee Engagement Index 2023 was an average of 3.7, which was an improvement from last year’s 3.6 result.

Climate Goals & Targets
Long-term Goals:
- net-zero emissions
Medium-term Goals:
- Accelerated sustainability goals towards a 50 percent CO2 reduction by 2025
Environmental Challenges
- Turbulent geopolitical and economic developments resulted in high inflation and steadily increasing interest rates in 2023. This in turn led to a slowdown in residential construction in many European countries, due to a lack of consumer confidence.
- Reductions in residential construction demand
- Strict regulations and nitrogen emission laws (Netherlands)
Mitigation Strategies
- Strong focus on cutting costs in the markets where residential construction makes up a large share of Consolis’ business, as well as centrally within Group functions. Some plants were closed temporarily and some closed for good.
- Successfully transitioned from a fixed to a variable pricing model.
- Adjusted its cost structure and optimized its footprint, primarily so in the Nordic markets. The 2023 restructuring program totaled EUR 11.4 million.
