Environmental Challenges
- Permitting is the most significant risk factor for the Project. Permits may be denied or legally challenged, or operating requirements imposed by the permits could be financially burdensome.
- Uncertainty related to the engineering scope and cost of mitigation required to meet applicable water standards, and responsibility for the financial liability.
Mitigation Strategies
- Completing a thorough environmental review and utilizing existing infrastructure (Erie Plant).
- Developing key mitigation plans and incorporating them into the SDEIS to demonstrate that the NorthMet project meets all state and federal standards.
