Governance Achievements

  • Established a formal CSR management structure consisting of a CSR Committee, steered by senior management.
  • Invited the ICAC to provide two talks to our staff and other anti-corruption training. There were no cases of corruption reported in 2016.
  • High proportion of independent directors on our Board, and 15% of Board members being female.

Short-term Goals:
  • Reduce energy consumption from HQ by 7-10% by 2020
  • Reduce overall GHG emissions from construction sites by 3% by 2020

Environmental Challenges

  • Did not achieve the target to reduce construction waste by 1% in 2016 due to difference in project construction stage and the absence of demolition waste which is usually recycled.
  • Most of the waste in property management business is generated by tenants and residents and is therefore beyond our direct control.
Mitigation Strategies
  • Works closely with contractors and construction workers on site to ensure that waste is diverted from landfill. In 2016, 22.5% of construction waste was recycled.
  • HPML’s Green Ambassadors help encourage tenants and residents to adopt the 3R (recycle, reuse, reduce) principles, and HPML facilitates waste separation by providing recycling bins at convenient locations.

Environmental Challenges

  • One fatal incident occurred at the LOHAS Park Phase 5 construction site due to a worker falling from height.
  • Reducing GHG emissions and adhering to energy reduction targets.
Mitigation Strategies
  • Suspended all works at LOHAS Park Phase 5 until safety measures were improved. An independent safety consultant was employed for more regular audits and additional safety personnel deployed.
  • Implemented a phased replacement program of fluorescent tubes with LED tubes at headquarters, achieving a reduction in electricity usage.
  • Refined the construction waste audit process for more accurate data.
