- Implemented water recovery measures, reforestation programs, waste management systems, and new technologies to reduce chemical emissions.
Social Achievements
- Invested in sponsoring, social activities, and people’s welfare in the region; participated in regional projects; collaborated with district and rural administrations; supported orphans in Tyva and children from low-income families; contributed to the construction of a chapel and the Palace of Culture; supported a milk farm; helped in organizing recovery activities in response to a flood; supported national cultural events; promoted local employment (275 out of 483 employees at Tardan were residents of Tyva).
Governance Achievements
- Majority of the Board composed of non-executive, independent directors with extensive experience in mining and running public companies; successfully refinanced bank debt with VTB, resulting in annual savings of US$ 0.6 million; rights issue raised US$ 18 million in new capital; restructured shareholder debt.
Climate Goals & Targets
Medium-term Goals:
- Produce 3 tons of gold from asset portfolio by 2022; complete documents required for state approval at Kara-Beldyr in Q3 2019; commence production at Kara-Beldyr in 2020-2021.
Short-term Goals:
- Implement CIL construction plans; establish definition of Kara-Beldyr project (mine design and feasibility study).
Environmental Challenges
- Decreasing grade and depletion of Barsuchy deposit resulting in lower production; need for continued capital expenditure for growth.
Mitigation Strategies
- Rights issue to raise capital; refinancing bank debt; construction of CIL plant at Tardan to increase gold recovery and mine lifetime; preparation for mining of Pravoberezhny deposit; recommenced alluvial production and exploration at Solcocon.
