Environmental Achievements
- Supported joint investigations leading to arrests, seizures, and prosecutions under the Zambia Forest Act No. 4 of 2015, resulting in the recovery of 9,267 logs, 4,139 planks, and 39 chainsaws.
- Significant increase in the seizure of pangolins and pangolin products between 2019 and 2023, with over 800 pangolins seized.
- Observed a decline in the trafficking of ivory, big cat skins, and pangolins in 2023.
Social Achievements
- Launched a pangolin awareness campaign to educate local communities.
- Rescued, rehabilitated, and released 30 pangolins back into the wild.
- Implemented a Women for Conservation initiative, growing its network to 562 people and conducting gender equality and GBV awareness training for 30 law enforcement personnel.
- Hosted the Zambian Conservation Careers Fair, reaching 1000+ people and posting 25 conservation jobs.
- Launched the Environmental Crime Journalism Fellowship, training 10 Zambian journalists.
- Conducted over 300 interviews with wildlife offenders to understand recidivism.
- Implemented the “This Is Not A Game” campaign against illegal bushmeat trade, reaching 2.5 million listeners and 797,500 people on social media.
Governance Achievements
- Maintained and expanded partnerships with key Zambian agencies (DNPW, Drug Enforcement Commission, National Prosecution Authority, Zambia Prison Services, Zambia Revenue Authority, Anti-Human Trafficking Department, and Anti-Corruption Commission) through MoUs.
- Provided continuous human rights (including gender rights) and use of force training to support law enforcement agencies.
- Increased the conviction rate for wildlife crime court cases from 63% in 2017 to 78% in 2023.
- Provided two additional secure containers to DNPW for evidence management.
- Supported Wildlife Crime Related Financial Investigations in partnership with RUSI.
