Environmental Achievements

  • Continue the existing program concerning the CO2 emissions reduction initiated in 2017
  • Reduce the use of dangerous substances (program ongoing since 2011)
  • Reduce waste (program ongoing since 2011) and paper consumption
  • Strive towards climate-neutral production of machines
  • Continuously increase resource efficiency by strengthening the circular economy
  • In 2023, we will move partly from fossil energy to renewable energy thanks to the installation of photovoltaic solar panels in three different plants (Switzerland, Italy and Taiwan).

Social Achievements

  • Opened a 300 square-meter Customer Center in São Paolo (Brazil)
  • Opened a new production plant in Kąty Wrocławskie (Poland), where it primarily overhauls and modernizes older DECO 10 systems. Currently employs around 40 qualified employees in Poland.
  • Completed the shell for a new production hall in Taiwan (expected to be operational by end of 2023)
  • Launched the “Turning sustainable” initiative, regrouping all activities linked to sustainability, climate change, and ESG.
  • Committed to training future generations and identifying future talents (organized a competition for students).

  • Published the Tornos Code of Conduct
  • Formally integrated sustainability risks into the Group-wide risk assessment in 2022.
  • Comprehensive compliance management system based on Code of Conduct for Employees and Code of Conduct for Business Partners.

  • Frequent disruptions in the global supply chain for raw materials and supplier products resulting in significant cost increases.
  • Coronavirus pandemic restrictions in Asia, particularly China, severely limiting machine production at times.
  • Material and supply shortages since 2020.
Mitigation Strategies
  • Demonstrated agility and pulled through thanks to constant efforts and exemplary stock management.
  • Introduced a refined method for value adjustment provisions that takes even better account of the specific circumstances at Tornos.
  • Price increases and a more favorable product mix with a larger share of higher-priced high-end machines to compensate for increased material costs.
