Environmental Achievements

  • Reduced GHG emissions per employee by 24.5% compared to the previous year.

Climate Goals & Targets

Long-term Goals:
  • Reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with our insurance business to net-zero by 2050.
  • Phase out existing insurances of thermal coal activities by 2040.
Medium-term Goals:
  • Convert operating business processes to net-zero emissions across the Group by 2030.
Short-term Goals:
  • Reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the entire Munich Re Group by 12 per cent per employee compared to 2019 by 2025.
  • Purchase 100% green electricity at locations that report environmental data by 2025.

Mitigation Strategies
  • Offering insurance covers such as residential building insurance to cushion the consequences of natural catastrophes.
