Climate Goals & Targets
Medium-term Goals:
- Increase the number of MNAs to reach Paralympic status and then (if feasible) pursue the required MNA numbers for Olympics qualification.
- Increase the number of non-bowls events for our members – includes holding an Annual World Bowls Conference.
Short-term Goals:
- Increase WB revenue 2x over the next three years.
- Establish a baseline satisfaction level with MNA members – minimum target of 80% total satisfaction.
- Increase all social and media channels by 200% in year one of this plan.
Environmental Challenges
- 20-year period of significant and consistent decline in the number of clubs (14% decline) and members/participants (38% decline).
- Poor branding and positioning of the game internationally.
- Lack of broadcast relationships, sponsorship, and commercial development.
- Need for more diversified revenue streams.
- Lack of leadership and strategic direction.
- Limited support in growing the game within smaller MNAs.
- Poor collaboration and sharing of information with MNAs.
- Lack of synergy and support to MNAs from World Bowls.
- Too much focus on events.
- Old "Boys Club" culture at World Bowls, leading to weak connections with MNAs.
- Inability to provide innovative leadership with respect to Commonwealth Games program.
- Lack of initiative to use the pandemic to provide support to MNAs or reflect on existing strategic plans.
Mitigation Strategies
- Recommendations for governance improvements (e.g., updating constitution, skills-based board appointments, succession planning).
- Recommendations for game expansion and development (e.g., regional buddy system, equipment exchange program, new game format development).
- Recommendations for operational improvements (e.g., outsourcing website and marketing, annual world conference).
- Recommendations for commercial and events improvements (e.g., developing a new shorter game format, reviewing hosting fees).
