Environmental Achievements
- Reduced the need for fourteen individual wastewater treatment plants through the construction of a regional wastewater treatment plant and three interceptor lines in Phase 1.
Social Achievements
- Improved public health by eliminating individual residential septic systems and conveying sewage to a regional WWTP.
- Held public meetings and homeowner association meetings to discuss project improvements and address concerns.
Governance Achievements
- Coordinated with various environmental agencies (WV DEP, WV DNR, USDA NRCS, WV C&H, USFWS, ACOE) to address concerns and obtain necessary permits.
Climate Goals & Targets
Environmental Challenges
- Higher than anticipated sewage flow (I&I) at the regional WWTP, exceeding permitted discharge on several occasions.
- Concerns from WV DEP over the treatment capacity of the regional WWTP to handle additional flows from Phase 2.
Mitigation Strategies
- Restructured Phases 2 and 3 to move WWTP expansion work into Phase 2, ensuring adequate treatment capacity.
- Undertook I&I investigations within the Fort Ashby collection system to identify and prioritize replacement work, including line replacement, manhole repair/replacement, and other remediation work.
- Replaced existing collection systems in several subdivisions to eliminate sources of I&I.
