Environmental Achievements

  • Completed EIA and LP; working on PBA to address impacts identified in ECI
  • Designed Volta Grande Gold Project to not require water extraction from the Xingu River; water requirements will be met by capturing precipitation and surface runoff.
  • Investigating near-pit crushing and conveyor transport of mine waste to reduce truck requirements; evaluating alternative fuels for mine truck haulage; investigating high-pressure grinding rolls and secondary crushing in the processing circuit to reduce carbon emissions and operating costs.

Social Achievements

  • Completed ECI (Indigenous Study) with FUNAI and received approvals from Juruna and Arara Indigenous communities.
  • Operating one information office to improve communication with local communities.
  • Contributing to improved accessibility of public services (healthcare, education) by assisting the municipality with initiatives and programs; assisting with transportation of doctors, nurses, dentists, and teachers.
  • Conducting a flu vaccination campaign for employees; supporting a breast cancer event; assisting in transportation of community leaders; hosting a tree planting event; supporting a football tournament.

Environmental Challenges

  • Legal challenges related to permitting (FUNAI litigation, SEMAS and IBAMA litigation, INCRA negotiations and litigation, litigation related to Xingu River communities); injunction on LI.
