Environmental Challenges

  • Covid-19 created a problem for surgeries and sales representative engagement with hospital staff.
  • The by far most complicated countries to achieve reimbursement in are France and Austria, where an additional randomized clinical trial is needed.
Mitigation Strategies
  • Surgical webinars were launched to facilitate surgeon outreach and training during Covid-19.
  • Educational Webinars, virtual lectures were organized to expand the knowledge about RefluxStopTM among surgeons, hospitals and payers.
  • The French Health Ministry (HAS) has a system called “forfeit innovation” which provides funding for a randomized trial in France.

  • COVID-19 pandemic affected elective surgeries and caused delays in market access and product development.
  • Shortage of electronic components, especially miniaturized chips, delayed the timeline of smart medical implants.
  • Missed the deadline for UriControl® approval due to changes in the European approval system from MDD to MDR.
Mitigation Strategies
  • Incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary in the US (Implantica Inc.) in preparation for US market entry.
  • Developed a robust market access strategy, including a commercial development team.
  • Commissioned a real-world observational registry study and planned a large multinational Randomized Controlled Study to meet reimbursement requirements.
