Scope 1 Emissions:1,058 tCO2e
Scope 2 Emissions:4,809 tCO2e
Scope 3 Emissions:1,851 tCO2e

ESG Focus Areas

  • Environmental
  • Social
  • Governance

Environmental Achievements

  • Decreased emissions across all three scopes compared to 2022/2023. Scope 1 decrease primarily due to reduced fuel combustion; Scope 2 decrease due to lower electricity usage; Scope 3 improvements included adding waste, employee commuting to CO2 calculations.
  • Increased share of green energy in the Netherlands to 51.9%
  • 44% of product portfolio defined as sustainable (up from 20% the previous year), primarily due to use of natural or bio-based carrier materials.

Social Achievements

  • Zero Lost Time Injuries (L1) in 2023/2024.
  • Implemented Safety Culture Ladder program, with Apeldoorn site achieving level 3 (some aspects approaching level 4).
  • Increased near-miss reporting (L4), indicating greater safety awareness.
  • Invested at least 2% of personnel expenses in employee well-being, training, and community activities.
  • Extended Better Together Dialogue program for continuous learning and development.

Governance Achievements

  • Reorganized program structure to meet sustainability goals under CSRD.
  • Renewed double materiality analysis to align with CSRD requirements.
  • Established ESG governance structure with program owners and cross-functional support for reporting and communication.

Climate Goals & Targets

Medium-term Goals:
  • Reduce the CO2 impact of operational activities by 50% versus 2015 by 2030.
  • 90% of revenue to be based on products that contribute to sustainability by 2030.

Environmental Challenges

  • Calculating Scope 3 emissions remains complex. Upstream categories 1 and 4, and downstream categories, excluded from Scope 3 calculations due to data limitations.
  • Increase in L2 incidents (restricted duty/medical treatment) despite zero L1 incidents.
  • Higher CO2 emission factor for electricity despite reduced consumption, leading to an increase in total scope 1 and 2 emissions per kg of material produced.
Mitigation Strategies
  • Continued use of Greenhouse Gas Protocol guidelines and external audit for emission factors.
  • Focus on reducing waste and collaborating with suppliers to lower emissions.
  • Promoting sustainable travel options for employees.
  • Continued focus on safety through prevention, reporting near misses, and proactive measures.

Supply Chain Management

Responsible Procurement
  • Engaging with suppliers to understand their product development processes and sustainability impacts.
