Environmental Achievements
- The Plant achieved a major milestone during the year upon reaching 3,000 days of plant operations without any lost time accident!
- Duly met all the stringent environment permit conditions promulgated by Ministry of Environment and Climate.
Social Achievements
- Worked with three other companies in the power sector to install a solar power facility at the Government school at Liwa.
- Donated interactive Computer flat panels to 5 schools of Ministry of Education at Barka.
- Total amount spent on CSR activities during the year 2019 was RO 20,000.

- Complied with the Code of Corporate Governance and applicable circulars issued from time to time by the Capital Market Authority (CMA).
Climate Goals & Targets
Medium-term Goals:
- Install a solar power facility at another school in Al Kamil in the Wilayat of Al Kamil and Al Wafi, in active participation with three other power sector companies and undertake public utility projects in the Vilayat of Barka.
Environmental Challenges
- Unprecedented 3 jelly fish attacks at the plant that caused a major outage and disruption in the plant’s operation and caused extensive damage to the plant’s water intake facility.
- Thermal inefficiency at high generation levels and at plant operating configurations that are inherently unfavourable and lead to heat rate loss.
- OPWP has not settled part of the monthly invoices relating to the gas consumption since May 2019.
Mitigation Strategies
- The issue was notified to Oman Power and Water Procurement (OPWP) as Force Majeure event, a clause agreed in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to which, OPWP has agreed.
- Employed a leading firm of experts to address the fuel inefficiency issue.
- Siemens has installed Performance Advisor software at the plant to investigate and find a solution to the plant’s operational deficiency.
- The Company will make efforts to find ways to minimise the heat rate loss.
- The Company has withheld all gas invoice settlement to MOG since May 2019.

- Installed a solar power facility at a Government school at the Wilayat of Al Kamil Al Wafi in cooperation with three other power sector companies.
Social Achievements
- Donated RO 20,000 to support the Government of Oman’s effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Total amount spent on CSR activities during the year 2020 was RO 35,000.
- Increased Omanisation in staff members.
Governance Achievements
- Complied with the Code of Corporate Governance and applicable circulars issued by the Capital Market Authority (CMA).
- Audit Committee and a Nomination & Remuneration Committee are fully operational.
- Internal auditor executes all functions as prescribed under the Code of Corporate Governance.

- OPWP had not settled Company’s gas charge invoices since May 2019 (resolved).
Mitigation Strategies
- Notified Oman Power and Water Procurement (OPWP) as Force Majeure event, resulting in PPA extension.
- Engaged international expert consultants and Siemens to address heat rate loss (no cost-efficient solution found yet).
- Successfully concluded fuel charge settlement agreements between the Company, OPWP, and MEM.
